Calvary Baptist Church

This new, rural church facility was designed by WSA to embrace the pastoral landscape and rolling countryside of its 7-acre site in Westminster, Maryland. The traditional church exterior includes traditional barn and residential elements, reminiscent of the other buildings surrounding the site, including a saltbox roof, bell tower, white trim, siding, and cultured stone. The church serves as a community center to the adjacent neighborhood, and an outdoor picnic plaza allows the church to enjoy the unbroken countryside and views beyond. The program includes sanctuary, classrooms, nursery, and administrative areas. The design team successfully addressed topographic challenges and blending contemporary & rural aesthetics.
